A buoyed bay in Los Cabos where local swimmers turn up every morning.
Most of the Los Cabos coastline is ruled out for swimming by heavy surf and a hard undertow. Palmilla is the exception, and swimmers know it. A headland shelters the bay, the swim area is marked out with buoys, and a community of local open-water swimmers uses it daily. The bay hosts two open-water events a year, and it is where the Los Cabos Ironman swim takes place. The water holds Blue Flag certification and the resort sits directly on the sand, so the swim starts at the door. Snorkelling is good straight off the shore, and humpbacks pass offshore between December and April.
