A rocky promontory with its own beach below and two more on either side, half an hour from Lisbon.

The hotel stands on a rocky promontory with its own small beach directly below it and a sandy beach on either side, Praia da Conceição to the north and Praia da Rainha to the south. The bay is sheltered enough to take the edge off the Atlantic, and the swim worth doing is across the cove and on toward Estoril, with a seafront promenade to walk back along. Not cold by northern Atlantic standards, though it can get rough. The building began as the 1873 summer house of the Dukes of Loulé. Cascais is a half-hour train ride from Lisbon along the coast, and the station is a few minutes from the door.
